A Letter from Memphis

Dear Mr Lietze
Merry Merry Christmas
I am missing you so much and sometimes I wish that I could come back to New Zealand, but I am having so much fun here.
I wish you could explore the fun snow and allsorts. We had thanksgiving and had Turkey and had lots of fun in the snow.
This morning when we woke up it was snowing outside.
I am learning to measure the American way, and we are learning pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and dollars.
My teachers name is Miss Davis, and my new friends are Jadyn, Alena, and Natalie.
We got given a car, and move into our own house on Monday.
Please say hi to all the kids in the class I miss them all, and please tell Milly I miss her and wish I could have more fun with her.
You are the best people in the whole entire world.

Slideshow: Our Class Breakup

On Friday the class came to my house and we went down the plain white waterslide. When I did a bomb into the water my legs got biten by an eel. It felt like a little nip on my heal except it hurt more. By William

It was funny when Mr Lietze had a ride on the waterslide. He jumped onto his bottom and slid down the slide. He landed in mud at the bottom. By Bianca

Canoing was my favourite because it was new to me. I also liked going down the waterslide. It was yucky when we landed in the mud at the bottom. When we were watching the people go down the waterslide, suddenly there was thunder and lighting. BOOM! Then the rain came down. It went twinky twinky. William said that the Mums' could go up to their house for coffee and tea. By Ketsia

On Friday night at William's house we went canoing. I had my first time in a canoe and I learnt how to row backwards. I also went down the waterslide and then I got a big scratch on my leg because there was a sharp bit on the end of the slide and you got scratches from the grass. By Caitlin

Our Inquiry Answer!

"Why don't birds die when they sit on a powerline?" We had a number of different answers so it took us longer to get the truth.

Today we decided to ask a specialist. We rang the local power company, Power Co. There Daniel spoke with a man named Neville who told us:
- "Birds don't die when they are sitting on the powerlines because they are not touching the ground at the same time. The power needs to go somewhere for them to be electrocuted."

Thanks to Neville, his answer has confirmed Miss Signal (who left a comment) and Jacob's thoughts. Now we have at least 2 reliable witnesses that confirm this answer! What a fun way to learn and what a cool journey!

Help: Birds and Powerlines.....

One of our inquiry questions is: Why don't birds die when they sit on powerlines?
We have found a number of different answers to this so need your help.

Our possible answers are:
1) God made birds with legs that have bits on them just below their hips that stop the electricty from electrocuting them. By Rosalind and Maddison

2) If you are not touching the ground the electricity has no where to go so the birds don't get electrocuted. By Jacob

3) Birds don't get electrocuted when they are on the soft part of the powerline. If they are on the rough part they will get electrocuted. By Ned

4) Birds are not heavy enough because they don't have much weight so they don't get electrocuted. By Bianca

Mathletics and Spellodrome!

B2 follow the instructions below to get to Spellodrome.

1) Log into Mathletics.

2) Click on the Spellodrome tab (The yellow arrow is pointing to it).


3) Then listen for the word and type it into the sentence.

B2 this is a VERY cool website were we get to practice and have fun with maths.
Click on the Sign In button and then put in your username and password that I gave you.
From there you can create an avatar (little person) and earn money by finishing the maths activities. You can then buy some bling for your avatar! Have fun!
(We have until the end of the month to trial it.)

I brought some boxes to school from home. I joined two together with cellotape and string. I stuck red and purple paper on the boxes. I hurt my toe with the cellotape holder. It made my toe bleed. "OUCH!" said Thomas. I stuck red and purple paper on the boxes.

Wow B2! Look at the child's face - what do you think they are thinking? Who can spot their toy?

Our toys have arrived in the Philippians at the Ruel House.

Last term we were learning about Our Responsibility to the Pacific Islands. We decided to give up some of our toys to help the sick children in the Philippians (even though the Philippians are not in the Pacific). The toys helped make the children happy who were having operations and staying at the Ruel House. By Maddison

At our Show and Tell day Johnny came to collect our toys to take to the Ruel House so that all the little children could have a cuddle with the teddies.
